Official e-Sword Resource Description:
Afrikaans is the home language of 5,983,426 people in South Africa. Most of these people (41.8%) live in the Western Cape and in Gauteng (21.2%). C P Hoogehout, A Pannevis and S J du Toit are among the first translators of the Bible into Afrikaans.
The Bible is a collection of scriptures, from the Greek word Biblia, meaning "books". May include only the Hebrew and Aramaic scriptures of Judaism or may also include the Greek scriptures of Christianity. Christian bibles vary as to the number of books they contain and the sequence in which the individual books are presented. The canon of the Coptic Orthodox Church contains the greatest number of books followed in descending order by the canons of the Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Protestant churches. The Authorized or King James Version of the Bible is still widely used, although more recent discoveries of ancient manuscripts have enabled translators to create more accurate versions of the Bible.
