How To Convert a Desktop e-Sword Bible to a Pocket e-Sword Bible with BeST Premium

Note:  Some modules -- especially commentaries -- created with other tools are likely to have a large amount of "extra" formatting codes in them that BeST 2 does not understand.  This can cause BeST (to appear) to hang as it tries to interpret them and/or may produce a Pocket e-Sword module that still has extra codes in them or one that is not formatted properly.  You may wish to export your module in 'Raw' format (which does not change the formatting codes), strip out most of them, and re-import the file into a desktop module before converting it.

First, you must have BeST 2 Premium installed on your Desktop PC and have your Pocket PC device connected via ActiveSync (or whatever they call it in Vista).

Start BeST 2 on your desktop.  The "Welcome" screen appears as below:

Click the 'Start' button within BeST 2.

You are next presented a list of options.  To use an existing e-Sword Bible as your source of data, you must choose the 'Convert a module to another type of module' option (as seen below) and click the 'Next' button.

You then choose the module to convert.  Fill in the file name of the Bible (including the .bbl extension) or use the browse button to the right of the data entry field to search for your file.

Either way, when you choose a valid e-Sword file name, the 'Convert the Bible to what type of module' section is displayed and the 'Pocket e-Sword Module on Connected Device' option is pre-selected.  Click the 'Next' button to continue.

If the module is not password protected or a commercial module, you are presented with the details of the module as it appears in the Desktop e-Sword.  If you wish to change the details as it will appear in Pocket e-Sword, you may do so here.

Please Note:  The conversion of formatting codes used in the description information is not as robust as that used in converting commentaries and such.  It is best to keep your formatting choices very simple.

Pocket04

Click the 'Next' button and you are presented with the choice of where to save your new module.

To create a Pocket e-Sword module, you must choose the browse button to the right of the grey data entry box.

Pocket05

The browse button opens a Pocket PC folder browser where you navigate to the folder where your Pocket e-Sword modules are stored.

Please note:  The first time you run BeST 2 Premium and try to connect to your Pocket PC device, you may be asked to install 'Primeworks Dataport Server 1.54' on your Pocket PC device.  This is required for BeST 2 to see and write to your device.  If you have problems with connecting to your device through BeST 2 after installing this, please see the connection troubleshooting page (http://e-sword-users.org/users/node/1499) for further assistance.

Pocket06

Click the 'OK' button in the bottom right of the Pocket PC folder browser window and your folder selection is entered in the main BeST 2 window (as below).

Pocket07

Click 'Next' and you are almost finished!

Pocket08

Click the 'Begin' button to start the creation of your Pocket e-Sword bible.  While it is running, a status line is displayed which indicates which book of the Bible is being processed.  Click the 'Cancel' button if you need to stop the processing for any reason, or wait until the 'Processing Complete' message is displayed.
