Verse notes stored in all verses for chapter option
Thu, 03/18/2010 - 14:43
I'm trying to create a commentary module for version 9. There will be only one entry per chapter, and I want the entry to appear for any and all verses in each chapter, under both the chapter and verse buttons in the commentary.
When I run BeST, I have been selecting the option "Verse notes stored in all verses for chapter." Each time I run it, I get the following error:
"The input file could not be processed. The columns may not contain the expected values. The error message is: Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
When I click "OK," I get an unhandled exception error.
In my xls, I have the following headings and sample data (data is not lined up under headings here):
Book | Start Chapter | End Chapter | Start Verse | End Verse | Commentary
Acts | 1 | 1 | 1 | 26 | Test
I have also tried changing the running it without the start and end verse columns and tried changing the 26 to 1, both with the same rests.
It does work to chose the "per verse" option. Then in e-Sword, the verse note will display for all verses in the chapter.
So my questions are:
(1) what is the "in all verses for chapter" option intended to do?
(2) How do I get it to work?
and most importantly (3) Is there a way to set up my source file and run BeST so that I don't have to determine and input the end verse for each chapter? If BeST can do this for me, it would save me some time.
Thanks

Re: Verse notes stored in all verses for chapter option
You want to use the Chapter table, not the verse table for that.
I get the same error when I try the "in chapter notes" option.
I'd suggest using B-XML.
I'll have to learn B-XML some other time, but thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Jim
Just out of curiosity have you tried changing the name of the book and replacing it with its number
acts would be 44
and a thought should not chapters be book then chapter then text (44, 1, text) then try "in all verses for chapter"
hope this helps or at least gives you some ideas

Yep, tried that. Didn't make any difference.

BeST 2.1.0.4 Standard does not provide an option for just "chapter" or "chapters" for a heading.
The headings are:
Book Chapter and Verse
Book
Start Chapter
End Chapter
Start Verse
End Verse
Reference Number
Commentary
I've tried different combinations, but nothing worked for the "in all verses for chapter" and "in chapter notes" options.
I'll try doing this on my wife's laptop in case the problem is on this computer.

It most likely will not make a difference but the latest version of BeST is 2.1.0.7
You want to use the Chapter table, not the verse table for that.
I'd suggest using B-XML.
If you don't mind writing raw B-XML, it can be done.
