I've been running e-sword v.7.7.0 in OS Win 7 without issues. Just yesterday, I downloaded some topic files that were supposed to be compatible with 8.0.6 and earlier. After I placed them in the e-sword folder I attempted to open the app. When I did, I received the following error messages:
* 'C:\Users\MyAccount\Documents\e-sword\markup.ovl' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides. 3044 *
(this was scary because 7.7.0 has all files in C:\Program Files (x86)\e-sword\ for Windows 7)
Click OK
* Error 3044 - 'C\Users\MyAccount\Documents\e-sword\markup.ovl' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides. *
Click OK
* Error opening the Markup File database. *
Click OK
* 'C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword\study.not' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides. 3044 *
Click OK
* Error 3024 - Could not find file 'C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword\study.not'. *
Click OK
* Error opening Study Notes database. *
Click OK
* 'C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword\topic.top is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides. 3044 *

* Error opening Topic Notes database *
Click OK
* 'C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword\Bookmarks.lst is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides. 3044 *
Click OK
e-sword app finally opens
Bibles don't appear.
I can choose a topic book, but cannot choose anything other that the initial topic (chapter) of a file.

Please help.

Double check where the e-Sword program actually is installed.
It shouldn't be installed in the user directory, but Win7 occasionally does things that are bizarre.

That said, the issue is that markup.ovl has been corrupted. The data probably can't be recovered.

The usual method of fixing that error, is to delete markup.ovl. However, with Win7, you have to delete that file in at least two places:
* C:\Program Files x86)\e-Sword
* C:\Users\MyAccount\Documents\e-sword\markup.ovl
* C:\Users\MyAccount\AppData\Roaming\e-Sword\
* C:\Users\MyAccount\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword\ (There might be sub directories here that also need to be checked.

Try deleting only "markup.ovl".
If the problem persists, then delete "verse.lst", "topic.top", "study.not".

If they are not archived elsewhere, you will lose that data.

Can I ask why you are still using e-Sword 7.7.0?
