Search The Scriptures 1998 returns no results
Fri, 11/27/2009 - 03:49
I have converted the Institute for Scripture Research's bible module, The Scriptures 1998+, with Rick's conversion tool to e-Sword ver. 9, but it does not produce any output when doing searches on any word, either from double clicking the word and using right mouse button or by typing the word in.
I am using Windows XP Professional, the latest version of the conversion tool and e-Sword 9.5.1.
What could be the problem please?
I am looking forward to hearing from you.
In His Name,

Re: Search The Scriptures 1998 returns no results
Johan, the best place to ask about this is at Rick's site, just fill in the feedback form.
Did search work for the v8 file you made?
Does this module show in extended search list for v8 and v9?

Re: Search The Scriptures 1998 returns no results
Johan,
here at eSU, we like "GoodOlClint"'s converter better than Rick's. The converter is available By Clicking Here. I recommend that you download it and give it a try.
The eSU team will be able to help you if the problem persists with "GoodOlClint"'s converter, while they are unable to help you with Rick's.
By the way - "GoodOlClint"'s converter does batch conversions. Very nice.

Re: Search The Scriptures 1998 returns no results
Thank you, I have downloaded the "GoodOlClint" converter but the results are the same, i.e. no results. By the way, the converter convertd my .map files correctly, thank you Clint, good work!
I have asked Rick, but no feedback so far.
Thanks once again.

Re: Search The Scriptures 1998 returns no results
Hi, Johan and Asriel
The bible module The Scriptures 1998 was created useing the Lucida Sans Unicode font which is unsuported in eSword
Even though it shows in the bible window it is not searchable and will not key to dictionaries

Re: Search The Scriptures 1998 returns no results
I am the creator of The Scriptures 1998+ module and certainly didn't use the Lucida Unicode font - the Lucida Sans Unicode font shows the special characters that we use correctly.
I have set the font in the Access module to Lucida Sans Unicode though, is that what you mean?
I have searched other modules after I have set the bible font in e-Sword to Lucida Sans Unicode and the searches produced results.

Re: Search The Scriptures 1998 returns no results
Hi Johan
Using a Unicode font that is not supported by eSword is the problem
If you open The Scriptures 1998+ in an sqlite browser the font is listed as Lucida Sans Unicode every other bible I checked has Default as the font
this font is evidently not supported by Esword's searching feature
changing the font from esword's option, fonts will not fix it
You say You did not use Lucida Sans Unicode when creating the module then I don't know there is nothing else I can tell you then that is what I have found

Re: Search The Scriptures 1998 returns no results
Thank you for pointing this out.
I will change the font to "default" and then see what happens when searching.

Re: Search The Scriptures 1998 returns no results
more info
I took The Scriptures 1998+ and converted it to plain text to strip it of all formatting and rebuilt genesis 1-7 and searching and keying to dictionaries worked
and your Unicode still works also this is all you need to make Unicode work is {\f2 \'e9\'e4\'e5\'e4} a Unicode number for each character
when you use the unicode number you do not have to change the font
If you want to message me with your email I will send you the file I rebuilt

Re: Search The Scriptures 1998 returns no results
Thank you, {\f2 \'e9\'e4\'e5\'e4} is exactly how I have YHWH, but searching still produces no results on the Name.
Which Unicode characters did you use for the special characters which we (Institute for Scripture Research) use in verses such as Gen. 2:10, 13, 14, etc please?
Thank you,

Re: Search The Scriptures 1998 returns no results
Hi
your unicode characters work \u282?d{\f3 \u817?}en H{\f3 \u803?}awilah Gih{\f3 \u803?}on
it is changing the files font to Unicode that eSword does not support I think you said you changed it in access
this might be the problem
what I did (and there is probably more then one way to FIX this) I converted the whole bible back to plain text to strip all formatting and your Unicode characters will still be there and work
rebuild book chapter and verse your text is fine and will show all your special character
this is what it should look like
Genesis 1:1 your textyour textyour textyour textyour textyour textyour text
Genesis 1:2 your textyour textyour textyour textyour textyour textyour text
Genesis 1:3 your textyour textyour textyour textyour textyour textyour text
save as a text file and create using BeST
See Bens how to for text importing http://e-sword-users.org/users/node/490
This is what worked for me for peace of mind do this just with Genesis and check the results
By then someone else may have a quicker solution

Re: Search The Scriptures 1998 returns no results
As suggested, I changed the font in Access from "Lucida Sans Unicode" to "DEFAULT" and it now produces results when searching on "normal" words in e-Sword 9.5.1, i.e. those words not in Hebrew characters or words not containing "special" characters.
I do not understand how, by removing "all formatting and your Unicode characters", can still produce Hebrew and our special characters.
Ben's tool converts document into rich text format, this is the format that the Scriptures module is in already, using his tool will not help, according to my understanding.
Please note that The Scriptures 1998+ is not in the public domain and is under copyright by the Institute for Scripture Research, changing it is therefore wrong.

so searching is working now that is what we where trying to do problem solved

I said changing to plain text removes all formatting but the the special Unicode characters still show
I did not say anything about removing the characters
Ben's tool converts document into rich text format, this is the format that the Scriptures module is in already, using his tool will not help,
in text format Ben's tool would have been used to create the module in 9 if the other fixes did not work

Re: Search The Scriptures 1998 returns no results
I really appreciate all the help you are providing, but when you said that you removed all formatting, I understood it to mean all formatting for our "special" characters (what other formatting is there in the module)?
Searching now produce results (after changing the font to DEFAULT) on "normal" words, those words in Hebrew or "special" characters still remains a problem as searching on them don't produce any results.

Re: Search The Scriptures 1998 returns no results
Shabbat Shalom,
I'm wondering if this search problem has been fixed yet? I went and tried to change the font under Option/Fonts... but there was no "Default". I tried a few different fonts, but the results were the same. I am currently using TrueType Georgia.
Any help would be appreciated, as I and our home fellowship use ISR's extensively and nearly exclusively. We do delve into the Hebrew(HOT)&(HOT+) as well.
Not to ruffle feathers, just sharing information here as I hope we're all searching for the truth. It really bothers me as I now have to perform all searches in KJV, and having learned 6 years ago that this and many other versions contain pagan names, I don't like having to view them. Check out C.J. Koster's "Come Out of Her My People" or Lew White's "Fossilized Customs" for eye openers.
YHWH tells us in Shemoth(Exodus) 23:13 “And in all that I have said to you take heed. And make no mention of the name of other mighty ones, let it not be heard from your mouth.
If I keep putting those names before my eyes and in my ears, I will have them come out of my mouth. And yes I believe the Torah hasn't been done away with at all.

Any solution to this yet for v.9.5.1? Using KJV can not search the way I want to in The Scriptures 1998+ module...

Shalom Johan,
Which website were you referring to? ISR's or e-Sword's? If on a certain page, what's the page's URL? I'll get the word out to all I know.
Thanks for getting this done. I passed along your interim fix to our home fellowship you had sent me, and they were all happy for that.

Re: Search The Scriptures 1998 returns no results
Hi Johan,
I searched the entire user site here and can't find it. Is this taking time for them to put it on a page somewhere?
Also is ISR's website going to have this download available?
Will the search now work for all text or only for non-special characters?

Re: Search The Scriptures 1998 returns no results
Sorry to complain...I really hate to but I downloaded TS98+ from this site and well as the download on the isr-messianic.org website and neither of them are "searchable" for words. I love this translation so to be able to search words would be wondeful.
Could you reupload the "corrected" TS98+ or double check that the corrected version was uploaded? Thank you so much for your time and troubles over this. I just emailed the "contact us" and volunteered to eSU but I'm not a techie that can help with programming (but I can type! Ha !!).

Re: Search The Scriptures 1998 returns no results
Jon,
Thank you for pointing this out. I did find this page before, however the download link is:
http://www.isr-messianic.org/downloads/e-Sword-Setup_9.exe
and not to this site as Johan said he did, such as:
http://e-sword-users.org/...
I did however download this file e-Sword-Setup_9.exe, but upon inspection of it, I didn't install it as the file size had me concerned. The one I downloaded in late 08/09 for e-Sword Version 9.0.3 Upgrade, was as the page you mention to be 1.68MB. However the file this link is pointing to is a whole lot smaller, only 152K! That's 10 times smaller than before, and this doesn't seem to be right.

Re: Search The Scriptures 1998 returns no results
Thank you for trying to help. There's no way I'm the only one not able to search. These are my results: Is The Scripture searchable from these sites:
your link http://www.isr-messianic.org/downloads/e-Sword-Setup_9.exe - no
the irs-messianic.org site version 9 - no
the eSword site version 9 - no
the eSword site version 8 and then convert - no
the irs-messianic.org site version 8 and then convert - no
It bothers me to contact eSU team to point this out because I'm sure they're busy. I think I'll just use the KJV to search and toggle back to The Scripture 1998+.
I don't see how I'm doing anything wrong because I just double click on a word such as "truth" and that way works on all my other bibles. But thanks again for helping. If your's is searchable are you able to upload your copy to eSU so all they have to do is replace their copy?
