Made the switch to 9x but have ???s
Thu, 06/25/2009 - 23:19
I renamed ver 8 to esword2 both in the program files and My docs. I downloaded ver 9x from esword.net. All files downloaded in the programs folder of e-sword. Should I drag all the topic files to My Docs folder of esword? Only 4 items copied to the 9x My Docs esword folder, they are: bookmarks.lstx, topic.notx, study.notx and markup.ovlx andI can view all files when I en except 'Cleared-up Contridictions of the Bible and Catholic commentary' they seem to be blank or is there a special view I should be in to see these writings. How do I convert my markup file with all my highlights from ver 8 to 9x? Do I just copy ver 8 markup file to the My Docs ver 9x folder? I do like ver 9x, it is faster but really miss the bible tree, any way we can get it back? Thank all of you for your hard work you have put into esword. I love it have have been a user since 2000.
If you need a good typtist I'm available.
Thank you and may God continue to Bless this work.

Re: Made the switch to 9x but have ???s
Thanks for your reply Dave. What about the 2 topic files that seem to be blank? Is there a certain bible I should be in b/4 viewing these topics. I have about 42 bibles and about 175 topics all downloaded from esword net or esword users. 1 bible did not convert 'Holhman'bible. Should I move all the topic modules from the programs folder to my docs? I will rename ver 9 and redownload it again to get my markup files carried over. I have never used any of the utilities you have, only the converter for ver 9. Tell me what I need to do and I'll be happy to help out.

The Holman Bible is a premium resource offered through eStudySource. If you purchased it through e-sword.net, just contact Rick Meyer at his feedback section and ask for the v9 download. He'll help you out. If you purchased it through eStudySource, just log back into your account there and download it again. Password protected modules like the Holman Bible cannot be converted with our conversion programs.
What are the two topic files that seem to be blank? Maybe we can help.
About that typing: we don't want to overwhelm our team, so tell me how much time you might have available, and proficient you are at the keyboard (bragging is allowed)

The 2 topic files are 'Cleared-up Contridictions of the Bible and Catholic Commentary, should I be in a certain bible, book or verse before I can view these writings? I can give you 10-15 hours per week (maybe more) for typing. I recently lost my job as an Admin. Ass't of 7 yrs due to the economy and company downsizing. I'm taking care of my sick Mother 6 hrs a day, I think losing my job at this time was a blessing in disguise for her, I'm available to be there for her).

Re: Made the switch to 9x but have ???s
PMars,
I'm so very sorry to hear about the recent events in your life - especially your Mom - but I think you are right about the blessing of God's timing. "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord (Ps 37:23), and the "stops" too!
We don't have a Topic file named 'Cleared Up Contradictions of the Bible,' but we have a commentary called '101 Cleared-Up Contraditions in the Bible.' When installed, it will show up in the commentary section, but there will not be commentary on every verse. Only when a note about the current verse of the Bible exists will the commentary show the note.
Also, the Catholic Commentary is not a Topic module, but a commentary module. All commentaries should be installed to the programfiles/e-Sword directory. Perhaps you should visit this page http://e-sword-users.org/users/node/2094 and download those files and install them again.
As to your typing - 10-15 hours a week is very generous. I expect that we will be able to get you started with some typing very soon. When would you like to start?

Hi, Pamela,
I've sent you a "Message." If you'll look at the menu bar, you'll see "Messages," and you should have one (from me). Can you click it, and send me an email?

Re: Made the switch to 9x but have ???s
Hey:
I installed v9 and then wish to go back to v8 because of time factor. When I uninstalled 9 and installed 8 it gives me Error encountered opening Bible file: C:|Program Files\e-sword\kjv.bblx.
Also same error for kjv+.bblx, strong.dctx, robertson.harx.
Then Error 3343 Unrecognized database format "C;\Users|Edgar|Documents\e-sword\study.notx".
Next is Error opening Study Notes database and Topic Notes.
The program opens but when I exit it give me an error for compacting database files.
Has anyelse had this situation. I am trying to think of how to work around it because e-sword is wonderful...

Re: Made the switch to 9x but have ???s
Let me answer my own question. 9 put some files in mydocuments under my user name. When I deleted them 8 installed fine. I just copied all my previous installed files into the directory and it worked great.

Re: Made the switch to 9x but have ???s
One more question, the module for The Holman Bible I downloaded from e-Sword.net when it was available for free. Now this module is listed under the premium resources in 9x. The conversion tool will not convert it due to a passcode. Do I have to pay for the 9x version?

Unfortunately, you'll have to buy the new version.

Hi, PMars,
Don't be discouraged! I think we can fix this.Take 5 minutes and read my blog - http://e-sword-users.org/users/node/2182. By the way - smart move to change those directory names like that.
Before you run e-S 9 for the first time, make sure all of your user files - including .top and .ovl - are in your MyDocs/e-Sword directory. The first time e-Sword starts - and only the first time - all of these files will be converted for you.
If you opened e-Sword 9 already, you can uninstall and reinistall it; just make sure you move all of your user files before you actually open the program.
We have TONS of typing to be done. Are you interested in helping to build new e-Sword modules for the world's best e-Sword library?
