Heeelp!! Surprised returning user....
Mon, 06/08/2009 - 07:30
From how it seems, this question may be old hat but I haven't found any clear answer. Please help anyone?
I have come back to esword after not using it for a while or updating when i caught wind of some complications regarding new versions. I had version 7 along with a lot of extras and a stack of my own Study notes and topic notes. Anyway, I bought a new laptop and tried to copy and paste the whole folder over to my laptop. The .exe file only brought up the esword intro screen but did not start esword. I decided to download v9 from esword.net. I put all my files in the same folder as the new esword and when i opened it, I got nothing but the usual starter modules (kjv etc.). I tried using the esword converter tool in batch mode and it only worked for something like 7 or 8 bibles and nothing else.
What do i do? Will I have to download every thing I converted one by one all over again? Even more importantly, are the study notes and topic notes I made uncovertable? Any help would be appreciated and sorry if i am rehashing an old topic.

Ben,
Here is my two cents worth:
1) uninstall e-Sword 9 using the remove software tool in the Windows Control Panel.
2) read my blog about what I learned during install. You can read it by clicking here - http://e-sword-users.org/users/node/2182.
3) make sure that you move all of you user files into your MyDocuments\e-Sword directory BEFORE you reinstall e-Sword 9. User files are your study notes (*.not), topic files (*.top), bible reading plans (*.brp), verse lists (*.lst), memory verse files (*.mem), markup files (*.ovl), prayer lists (*.prl). For your personal needs, it sounds like the big problems were your Study Notes (*.not) and Topic Files (*.top).
4) the first time (and only the first time) you start e-Sword after it has been installed (or in your case, uninstalled and then re-installed), it will convert all of the user files to the new format. You'll be able to tell that it happened; all of the new files will end with 'x' (*.notx, *.topx, etc.), and all of your old files will be appended with '.old' at the end.
5) Before you begin, again please read my blog in it's entirety. I think it will give you some help.
