So, what do you think of the new 9.0 version of e-Sword? Do you love it or hate it?

Re: e-Sword 9.x Love it or hate it?
I love it now that I can convert my Bibles to the new version. The only thing I notice that may be an issue is that using the dictionary modules seem to be slower compared to version 8. Am I the only one to notice this?

Re: e-Sword 9.x Love it or hate it?
So far I can't enjoy the new version. Too many of my modules aren't showing up. I'm hoping to run into some info that will get it back to where it was.

If only I could get my home-grown modules converted, I might also love it.

Re: e-Sword 9.x Love it or hate it?
I would love it, but I can't convert all my Bibles. The bulk convert utility doesn't seem to work with Vista 64bit. I guess I'm going to have to install XP on another lap top and use it to covert.

Re: e-Sword 9.x Love it or hate it?
After much downloading, converting and finally only losing five modules, I have to say that I do like the 9.x version. It is faster than the 8.x ver. both in startup and loading of the STEP reader. Time will tell concerning the lost modules, but all in all a good "upgrade".

Re: e-Sword 9.x Love it or hate it?
I think it's a shame the transition to 9 occurred so abruptly, creating a kind of apartheid between the sub-9's and the 9 pluses, especially as all the commercial products are unswervingly 9. I worked out 2/3 of my esword stuff is user-made, which means going 9 might be an expensive adventure, and not in a financial sense.
Having said that, brother Meyer IS doing all this to God's glory and for free, so he deserves our thanks at least. In a year's time when we're all on 9 and enjoying the better interface, we'll wonder what the fuss was about... I hope...

I absolutely love it! Especially the anchored tabs, which are wonderful. The new scripture lookup is nice, but I have always preferred Ctrl-L to navigate Bible books, mostly for real estate's sake. The new import/export file types are a welcome addition. Many thanks to Rick Meyers for his continuing work on this software.

Re: e-Sword 9.x Love it or hate it?
I LOVE IT - today!
e-Sword9 works faster and it looks better than previous version - it is important when I spend hours with it. At the beginning, when the new version of e-Sword occured I was mistrustful, especially as to new kind of extensions of files - which I couldn'd read oryginally as a source. I have many files created by myself and I'm now creating others (in "msaccess"). And I thought it would be the big problem. But good converter resolves all problems (I use it, http://goodolclint.com/e-Sword/Release.zip). I still prepare text in my msaccess" and then convert it to new format. Some say that converters can't work or work wrongly, but first of all some files must be prepared to convert. Now all work correctly, also with mapx, harx etc. But I found one problem in e-Sword9, The tab for "split" the Bible Widow don't work correctly. The table "Lookup Scripture reference" is a good idea, but I prefer it would be longer (less the scrolling function or none) - then it would help to search and open Bible verse more quickly. These are my observations about the new e-Sword as a co-author of one of a foreign-language version.
I understand the objections of others especially as for password protected files. It is a problem if you don't know a password. You can't convert that file.

Re: e-Sword 9.x Love it or hate it?
Well I finally made the huge leap. I sat down and did the conversion process of all 145 bibles and over 200 topic files and a slew of others. After I spent 3 hours trying to convert I realized that I needed the files switched off from "Read Only" the another 6 hours trying to find old files and things I had lost in the process from my stack of 6 DVDs with old e-sword programs on it due to a corrupt burn backup.. Then I updated and then waited for the program to load. It sat and cooked for an hour while everything copied to the Vista virtual store folder. Now instead of 2 gigs of e-sword on my computer it doubled to 4 gigs. Wow what a huge space saver. So I have to compress both the e-sword directory files and the virtual store which gets it down to about 3.5 gigs. I believe that all those who said this thing zips along must only be running the KJV with the Matthew Henry commentary and nothing else. I had to change all the file names to lower case, take out numbers in some places. Then when I had a corrupt file I had to not only delete it from the e-sword directory but also from the virtual store. So after a huge deal I have for the most part made the leap with much pain and huge interruptions to my biblical studies. But when something is for free I don't feel right about complaining. I'll lock everything I got to make it harder for the next guy on the next upgrade, just for fun. Just wondering why we need to lock public domain files?? So over all it has been a fair and foul relationship with this program. But now all the hard work is over I'm sure I'll grow to love it. That is until I download updates 9.0.4, 9.0.5, 9.0.6, 9.0.7.......;0)

wayman, i think you will find that you can delete the e-sword files in the virtual folder and everything will be fine. i think this is a pesty feature of vista rather than e-sword.

Like it. Not sure about "Love" yet. The interface is a little more appealing. Converting modules, however is no fun.

Now that I have all of my modules working, I really like it.
However, the bible navigator is a bit inconvenient. I like the last one better.

Re: e-Sword 9.x Love it or hate it?
I'm fairly new to e-sword. I used ver. 8 for only a couple of weeks before ver. 9 came out. I still have a good bit to learn, but on the whole I like it. In the past I have used several different versions of QuickVerse, Bible Works for Windows, Online Bible, and Power Bible. I have also looked at several other downloadable Bibles.
e-sword is now my most used electronic Bible, though I still use BWW for some of its scholarly tools.
For its ease of use and the breadth of resources available, e-sword ver. 9 will be the one I recommend to others.

Re: e-Sword 9.x Love it or hate it?
As a long-time user of E-sword I have converted to version 9 - took time but now am up and operating on the new system - enjoying the new features and look forward to further use of this program as I continue to seek God, study His Word and use what I study for His glory and the extension of His Kingdom.

Re: e-Sword 9.x Love it or hate it?
There is no real improvement in the program itself. The new version is much slower than the older version. The only big difference is that the data can now be encrypt. So I will say for the programmer this is a much better version, but for the user there is just more frustration to convert everything and redownload everything again. Besides this I will always love e-sword!

Re: e-Sword 9.x Love it or hate it?
Wayman goes back to 8.0:
So I got all the files I owned to 9.0 and found that I had 2 copies of everything on my hard drive due to the virtualstore folder in vista. Man was that ever a headache! I am a heavy user and so it took forever to load e-sword and to switch between texts and verses. Even with most of the texts and commentaries and bibles switched off! So at any rate I copied all the converted files to a disk and went back to 8.06. There are several possibilities on why it was loading slow. For one I may have an issue on a converted file being corrupted or some other issue on the conversion. But I dislike having two copies of everything in vista so even though the converted files of 9.0 were smaller I still have the same amount of space being used because vista would copy it. So now I am able to zip around without issue using the good ol 8.06 and will come back when some of these run issues are resolved. I would rather use the program, information, and it's tools rather then play around getting it to work correctly. So my motto now is "If you have a ton of time switch to 9"
For the record, I love the Bible verse selector... and I hated version 8.x's bible selector. He should have left the expanding tree. 9.x if fairly quick and simple though, and I love that.
Still playing with the other new features of 9.x
