Cannot convert any modules
Mon, 05/04/2009 - 04:04
Hi,
I cannot convert ANY of my modules. On all of them I get the error:
Failed: unable to open old XXX database (may be password protected or locked by another program).
Where XXX = Topic Notes, Bible, etc.
The files are NOT password protected and NO other program is using it.
Any ideas? I am using Windows XP pro.
Regards,
Willem Swanepoel
PS. I created a very simple .TOP database in e-Sword 8.0.6 and tried to convert that to e-Sword 9.0.1 Same problem occurred.

Re: Cannot convert any modules
Have you installed v9 yet? I suspect, (which means I guessing) is that you need to install v9 for the conversion tool to work. The Bible file format is SQLite in v9, and I suspect (again - guessing) that by installing v9, you install the files necessary to work with SQLite files, and that perhaps (i'm guessing) that the conversion tools needs to have v9 installed to make the conversion magic happen. I just did the conversion of a Bible for a friend who could not get any files to convert. The difference - I have v9 installed, he does not.

Re: Cannot convert any modules
Hi BH,
I do have version 9 installed (in fact, unless you have v9, the convert utility will not even install).

Re: Cannot convert any modules
I am having the same problem, but I have been successful in converting my own module, the Complete Apostles Bible, NET, and WEB. However, my CEV, CLV, LXX, and a few others give me the error message. So it appears to only affect certain modules but not others.

Re: Cannot convert any modules
I've written some days ago at this forum that I had the same problems. Now, I've resolved all of them. Generally as for convertion: the file to convert must be marked out for "only to read" in "Propeties" of a file. Any other Questions?

Re: Cannot convert any modules
Hi Darak
I tried this and the converter gives and error message: Source file Invalid!... also, it keeps calling for a password to continue conversion..What is the password it's asking for?
Thanks for your help.

Re: Cannot convert any modules
The only Password is the one created by someone who built the file, if he wished to create it. Invalid file? Try open it as I told you earlier. Is this possible?
No convert, but open.

Re: Cannot convert any modules
Sent you email... Can't open in Access but opens in word pad but unreadable... little squares etc...
I guess I'm trying to get the older files to convert like the msg bible and others as I got them from Rick's site when there was no charge for them...
Now it looks like, Thayers, Robertsons etc... I won't be able to use as don't have the kind of resources to spend for the modules...
Thanks for your input.. Anything else will be helpful.

Re: Cannot convert any modules
Email addresses are NOT allowed in the forums, moderated by UPmomof6 send me the "invalid" file remember to compress .zip or .rar see "messages" on the top of this page About older or new files - there's no matter -all are convertable. About WordPad - earlier I wrote not about common WordPad, or NotePad, but special application, created for users of e-Sword - it is called "TWordPad"

Re: Cannot convert any modules
It doesn't work in lower versions of E-Sword and it is NOT converting non locked/non passworded files. I have version 9 and it converted ONE file, The Amp Bible, and none of the old modules will convert, other than that one. It actually converted the Amp commentary too, but NO other would. :(

Re: Cannot convert any modules
Hello,
in case we talk about that convertor:
http://zefania.blogspot.com/2009/05/e-sword-converter-supports-as-far-as...
You should look for an error log file in the director where the converter is.
in general all available convertors will fail if there is not the correct table structur in the old version 8 modules.

Cannot convert, how i can covert from 8 to 9
i need help please or send me the link
thanks
God bless you
I have the same problem. I'm using Vista. "Failed: unable to open old XXX database (may be password protected or locked by another program)" - it was when I really had password protected, but when I removed it, there is still unable to create new database, although I have confirmation it was done - but there isn't any new file. Sometimes I had an info "unable to convert table".
